Seven Palms

 Seaside Luxury Estate Eleuthera, Bahamas

Eleuthera, the longest island in The Bahamas, is generally called the Island of Freedom. The name "Eleuthera" is derived from the feminine form of the Greek word ελε?θερος (eleutheros) meaning "free". Eleuthera is an  island of contrasts. It is just over one mile wide at most places but is 110 miles long with magnificent pink-white  beaches, sheltered coves, breathtaking bluffs and cliffs and fine harbours. The cliffs are in the north where the deep blue colour of the Atlantic Ocean can be seen on one side and the calmer turquoise Caribbean Sea on the other. The centre of the island is the hilly farming area, famous for pineapples and tomatoes. In the south the island is green and flatter with quaint villages.

ELH has the most flights arriving and departing. ELH is a short taxi ride and water taxi ride to Harbour Island. Most car rental places on the island will gladly pick you up at ELH and drive to another town on the island. ELH is 15 to 20 minutes north of Gregory Town.GBH is the centrally-located island, located just south of the town of James Cistern and a 10 to 15 minute drive to Governor's Harbour, the largest town on Eleuthera.GBH is the centrally-located island, located just south of the town of James Cistern and a 10 to 15 minute drive to Governor's Harbour, the largest town on Eleuthera. Delta has service from Atlanta - Continental flies into ELH from Ft. Lauderdale (FLL). Twin Air flies from Ft. Lauderdale into all 3 airports on Eleuthera. You can fly from Nassau to Eleuthera on Southern Air or Bahamas Air; the flight is less than 30 minutes. Another option is the Bohengy, the Bahamian Fast Ferry. The Fast Ferry docks in multiple locations on Eleuthera: Governors Harbour, Harbour Island, and Spanish Wells. To get to Eleuthera from Harbour Island or Spanish Wells, you take a water taxi and then a cab ride to reach your destination in Eleuthera.

Eleuthera has no public transport system. There are taxis and car rentals. It's generally best to rent a car to explore Eleuthera. It's not ideal for bicycling along the highway. Hitchhiking is popular and locals are generally helpful and friendly.

things to see..........

People often sought out the healing powers of Ocean Hole, rumored to be a bottomless, natural limestone wonder on the south edge of Rock Sound in Eleuthera. Filled with tropical fish and turtles who greet visitors, the brackish water is said to have medicinal purposes. Partake at your own risk.

Preacher's Cave, on the North end of the island, has both a natural and historical appeal. It was in this large, blue-shadowed cave that the Eleutheran Adventurers sought shelter after shipwrecking nearby. They had fled Bermuda in search of religious freedom, and it was in this cave that they held their first services in what would become their permanent home.
